WATER MIRRORS FOUNTAINES
The elegance and sobriety that characterise these types of fountains allow you to create unique spaces with optical illusions that you can enjoy while strolling around.
What is a water mirror?
Water mirror fountains are those with a thin layer of water reflecting the surrounding environment. They usually occupy large flat areas in squares and open spaces to create the effect of a large mirror on the ground. These fountains are usually walkable, and the walker can refresh himself by walking barefoot through them. These are minimalist fountains whose design depends to a large extent on the chosen flooring and the shape of the surface where they are to be installed.
Installation of the water mirror
The most important part of creating the mirror effect is the civil works. The installation of the fountain should be on a smooth, paved and completely horizontal surface so that the water is evenly distributed within the designed boundaries. The edges of the fountain should have a higher elevation to prevent further expansion of the water. At OTB, once the civil works have been completed, we install jets distributed over the surface of the fountain that fill the mirror with water to a depth of about three or four centimetres. To empty the mirror, these jets evacuate the water; this is treated and filtered to be in optimal conditions to repeat the cycle, thus saving a considerable amount of water.
How is a body of water maintained?
The maintenance of a mirror fountain is similar to that of walkable fountains.
Our fountains are equipped with water treatment systems that automatically ensure optimum water quality at all times, which saves on maintenance work.
It is necessary to check the surface of the fountain for objects, e.g., leaves, which might prevent the mirror from emptying.
In addition, a regular visit to the technical room will be necessary to check the correct functioning of all systems.
How much do water mirrors cost?
The budget for developing this type of installation depends on several factors:
- The surface area to be occupied by the mirror.
- The state of the space where it is intended to be installed, as different civil works will be necessary depending on the finishes and the starting point of the terrain.
- The speed at which you want to fill the mirror surface.
- Placement of other effects such as lighting, vertical jets to make the space more attractive, etc.
Best place to place a water mirror
We design water mirrors for outdoors and indoors. OTB recommends placing these types of fountains in squares and clear places as they generate the most spectacle by reflecting all the surrounding elements. In addition, they are easier to maintain as they are away from trees or any other vegetation that may prevent a perfect reflection.
Water Mirror in Gardens
We also make these types of fountains in gardens, although they are usually smaller in size and to be placed in very specific environments, so that they reflect and enhance some illuminated and representative point of the garden.
Water Mirror with Stones
This is another type of water body with a more natural appearance, which does not require civil works as the bottom is occupied by stones. It is a type of mirror that is not walkable and requires a greater depth of water due to the irregularities of the stone. Such mirrors are also often placed in gardens.
